What is our DREAM BIG Campaign?
As an organization, Resilient Hearts has never shied away from Dreaming BIG! Our goals are ambitious, and we know that our passionate community is poised to help us pull off the unthinkable! With an eye to the future, we are launching our Dream Big Campaign, our drive to raise $1,000,000 to build a sanctuary where people and animals can heal together.
In May 2019, Resilient Hearts was founded on the idea that EVERYONE deserves a forever family. We intentionally focused on building a sanctuary that wrapped you up like a warm hug, and created a community that allows everyone to live their truest life in an environment of safety and support. We were founded just as the pandemic struck, leaving many of us isolated and pulled away from our families, friends, and third spaces. As we all relearn to socialize and continue our journey back into society, we are excited to have a space where new bonds can be made, and more people can be welcomed into our forever family.
Our goals in building a sanctuary extend far beyond saving animals. Yes, we are an animal rescue at our core. Butn our model also provides safe haven to all of our community. Our facility in north Seattle has an open door policy, inviting people to come off the sidewalk to engage with our animals, no cover charge or motives required. You become connected to our sanctuary the second you walk through the door, welcomed by the animals in our care and the people who care for them. Resilient Hearts is where strangers become family.
As beautiful as our rainbow is, we know we can do better. We dream of a sanctuary for all animals, not just dogs and cats. We dream of a space where people can find healing through a connection with animals. We dream of a space where we can host classes, build income generating infrastructure, and create a self-sustaining system that takes focus away from our constant need to fundraise.
Our dream is to purchase property, expand our system to support more animals, build more welcoming facilities for adoptable and sanctuary animals, to build a clinic, to develop a food bank for the community in need, to offer low cost services to individuals in need. We dream of providing well paying jobs to our community. We dream of building a space of healing for any species. We Dream BIG!
What do you picture when you think of a sanctuary?
For most, images of sprawling fields and livestock retired from farm life sprout into their heads. They picture emaciated dogs and litters of abandoned kittens, rehabbing back to health with the attentive care of rescuers that saved them.
We’re with you. We also picture all of those things. But Dreaming Big to us also includes our own washer and dryer. We’d give almost anything for a bathing tub big enough for a large breed dog (seriously, have you tried putting an 80 pound hound into a utility sink?) Secure play yards, garden beds, heck even a meeting room big enough for 10 chairs! When we dream, we picture quarantine areas for sick animals and reviving our cat program.
Most importantly, our dream is to have a sanctuary where people can continue to gather, but away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
As of January, 2024, we are unable to run a cat program due to limited space in our Seattle facility. We love our space, and always hope to have a presence in Seattle, but the truth is we need some room to spread out!
How can you contribute to the campaign?
We are lucky to be connected with a community advising us on where to find property, best ways to purchase land, etc. We are on a mission to find the perfect space for our sanctuary, and we need your help to make it a reality!
