Welcome to the RHAS Foster Community!

Thank you for being part of our mission! If you’re interested in fostering, you’re in the right place.

What does fostering Mean with Us?

Fostering is the heart of our rescue. As a foster-based organization, we rely on our community to open their homes so we can keep saving animals from overcrowded shelters.

When you foster, you save two lives: the pup you take home and the one who gets the spot you freed up in the shelter.

Bringing a foster animal into your home gives them a safe place to decompress, keep learning, and feel loved while they wait for their forever family. You’ll also get to know their personality, quirks, and needs better than anyone, making it easier for us to find them the perfect match.

how to get started

Start by reviewing this page and taking a deeper look at our Foster Manual to get familiar with how the program works.

If fostering feels like a good fit, sign up for our Foster Newsletter! This is where we share all available animals and where you can sign up to foster a pup. We send weekly and as-needed updates so you’ll always know who needs a soft place to land.

What are the types of fostering available?

Our fostering program is designed to be flexible and fit any lifestyle. We offer several different types of fostering, depending on your availability and readiness to commit.

Short-Term Fostering

Short-term fostering is the backbone of our rescue. It’s a lower-commitment way to help, perfect for folks who only have a few days available or whose schedules change from week to week.

Short stays are incredibly helpful. They allow us to keep taking in new animals and provide support to our long-term fosters or foster-to-adopters who may need coverage for travel or unexpected situations.

Minimum commitment: 3 nights with your foster pup (unless otherwise noted in the foster newsletter).

Long-Term, Behavior & Medical Fostering

Some animals need a little extra time and care before they’re ready for adoption. Long-term fosters commit to several weeks to months of support. These animals might need help learning basic manners, have special behavior needs, or they may be recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. Others are adult dogs or pups who simply don’t thrive in our open playroom-style facility.

We’re always looking for fosters who are comfortable taking on more complex cases and want to help these animals truly blossom.
